A zipper is a kind of fastener that keeps the edges of two pieces of fabric together. It’s often found on clothes, luggage, tents and other things. It has two rows of teeth and a slider that can be moved up and down to push the teeth together or pull them apart. Similar fasteners date back to 1851, but the first modern zipper was invented in 1913.
ジッパーとは2枚の布の端をつなげる留め具（ファスナー）です。衣類やスーツケース、テントなど色々なものに使われていますね。歯の並んだ部分が2列あって、上下するスライダーによってその歯が噛みあい、くっついたり離れたりします。似たようなファスナーが1851年に発明されましたが、現在みられるようなジッパーは1913年に発明されました。
