Stick bugs, stick insects, or walking sticks, are a kind of insect that is camouflaged as a small stick. Some insects in the same family also look like leaves. They look like sticks or leaves so that predators will not notice them. However, some kinds also use bright colors or loud noises to startle predators if they are found.
ナナフシは英語で「棒虫」や「歩く棒」と呼ばれています。小さな枝のようにカムフラージュした昆虫です。なかには葉っぱに見えるものもいます。枝や葉っぱに見えるのは、捕食者に見つからないためですが、見つかったときに鮮やかな色と大きな音でびっくりさせるものもいます。
