A canopy is the top part of a forest where tall trees spread out and create a thick layer of leaves and branches. It blocks sunlight from the forest below, so the plants on the forest floor are not so dense. In the rainforest, many animals live in the canopy and never come down to the ground.
林冠とは、森林の上の方で高い木々が枝葉を茂らせている部分です。この下の部分の森林は太陽光が遮られるので、地面にはそれほど植物が育ちません。熱帯雨林では林冠だけに生息して決して地上に降りてこない動物がたくさんいます。
