Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth, if you measure by height above sea level. Its peak is 8,848 meters above sea level. Many people attempt to climb it, but it is very dangerous. The first people to successfully climb Everest were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. A Japanese woman named Junko Tabei was the first woman to reach the top of the mountain.
