We are looking for non-smoking, motivated, energetic, positive, native-speaking English teachers who:

have some, but not too much experience
are open to training and new ideas
can follow and adapt a set curriculum
enjoy talking, but know when to be quiet and listen and get others to talk
enjoy language - their own and others
like working with people
love kids
are positive and have a 'can-do' attitude

All applicants must reside in Japan and be able to attend an interview at our head office. All positions involve teaching both kids and adults and provide paid break and preparation time, four weeks' paid holiday, travel expenses, paid training and visa sponsorship.

Part-time teacher. From April 2009: At our head Korien school (near Hirakata on the Keihan Line.) To teach kids and adults, we require a hard-working, genki team player. Full details on application.

Our salaries are based pro rata on a full-time monthly salary of ¥250,000 for a 40-hour week and all positions require a minimum one-year commitment for which we pay a contract completion bonus.

Writers

We require writers to add to our curriculum. Writers will be paid per word and must write to our specifications. Payment will be made via PayPal.

Each applicant must forward contact details and a brief resume. Those that interest us will then be asked to submit a sample piece. If that is accepted, work to be completed will be forwarded via email.

An attention to detail, good grammar and writing skills, patience, ESL teaching experience and a reliable Internet connection are required.

Successful writers will be able to supplement their teaching income, and we feel this opportunity will appeal to native English-speaking teachers living in China, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

All writers will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement and assign the complete rights of the work produced to Modern English.

Flyer Teams

Team Leader — to be responsible for organizing flyer teams in Osaka.

Flyer Distributor — delivering flyers at stations and in letterboxes in Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe. We particularly need people to distribute flyers for our Sumiyoshi and Motomachi schools.

Energetic English speakers who like early mornings only need apply. Please state your nearest station, native language and availability. Previous applicants are welcome to re-apply. Rates are 2,500 yen per two-hour shift.

Background

We are a small, foreign-owned, private school in operation since 1998 and pride ourselves on our ‘at home’ atmosphere, our close relations with our students and our position in the local community. We currently have around 200 students, five teachers and four receptionists at our head school in Korien, a minute’s walk from Korien Station on the Keihan Line in Hirakata, Osaka-Fu. There is cheap accommodation nearby and the location offers quick and easy access to Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe and Nara. We also have franchise schools in Sembayashi, Tezukayama, Sumiyoshi, Ikeda, Kitaoji, Onohara, Ibaraki, Nakazaki-cho, Chatan (Okinawa), Uehonmachi, Motomachi, Wakayama and Sapporo.

Our salaried teaching positions provide four weeks’ paid holiday, two days off a week plus national holidays. The salary is calculated pro rata on a full-time salary of 250,000 yen per month. We pay travel expenses to a maximum of 600 yen per day at a monthly pass rate.
